Crunching the Numbers of Avram Grant’s 2 Year Tenure

Ghana coach Avram Grant has left the Ghana job after 2 years in charge. How did the Israeli fare in his time in charge. These numbers reflect his official matches only. Official matches include World Cup and African Cup of Nations Qualifiers as well as the Cup of Nations.

The Israeli played 22 competitive games. Out of this, 12 were in the African Cup of Nations, 4 were World Cup Qualifiers and 6 were African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Israeli played against 16 different opponents in this period playing twice against Mauritius, Comoros, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda and Egypt.

GOALS SCORED:

Ghana scored 30 goals in these 22 matches averaging 1.37 goals per match. Ghana’s 7-1 win over Mauritius in June 2015 was their highest scoring game while they failed to score in 8 games. The team had its productive year in 2015 scoring 20 goals in 10 matches averaging 2 goals per game. In 2016, the team scored 6 goals in 6 matches averaging a goal per game and scored 4 goals in 6 matches which is an average of 0.67 goals per game.

11 different players scored for Ghana under Avram Grant with Dede Ayew scoring the first and the last all from the spot. Dede’s first under Avram Grant was the penalty against Senegal and his last was the penalty against DR Congo at AFCON 2017. Dede Ayew and brother Jordan scored the most goals under his era.

GOALS CONCEDED

The team conceded 14 goals in 22 games which was an average of 0.64 goals per game. Ghana kept 13 clean sheets in Avram’s era. The most goals Ghana conceded in a game where 2 and it occurred on three different occasions. The AFCON opener against Senegal in 2015, the World Cup qualifier against Egypt in Alexandria and the AFCON 2017 semifinal against Cameroon.

Avram Grant had a win percentage of 54.5% for Ghana. This comes from the 12 wins in 22 official matches by the Israeli.
