The 42nd edition of the most cherished sports award ceremony in Africa [MTN-SWAG Awards Night] beckons this Saturday, May 27, 2017 in Accra as the Sports Writers Association of Ghana will be rewarding deserving sportsmen and women for their contribution towards national development in the area of sports.

As the spirit behind the award postulate, over twenty-five awards will be conferred on deserving sports personalities in different categories come Saturday at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.

But, before the ish! and aww! On Saturday, www.sports24ghana.com can predict that former Black Stars defender and the founder of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe is going to win the most prestigious award on the night – The Sports Personality of the Year.

The Sports Personality of the Year category is a straight battle between Emmanuel ‘The Game Boy’ Tagoe and former Black Stars defender and now FIFA and CAF venue coordinator, Anthony Baffoe.

Still undefeated, Emmanuel Tagoe opened the newly built Bukom Boxing Arena with a unanimous decision [120-106], [120-106], [120-106] victory over South African Mzonke Fana to clinch the IBO lightweight world title.

With a paltry 16 caps for the senior national team of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe retired from international football after the Tunisia 1994 African Cup of Nations.

He has occupied and played various roles for both the Federation of International Football Association [FIFA] as well as the Confederation of African Football [CAF].

Mr. Baffoe also founded the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana which is the local wing of the FIFPro.

Again, Anthony Baffoe is a FIFA Ambassador for campaign against racism and he exhibited it recently when Sulley Muntari was racially abused during a Serie A match involving Pescara and Cagliari.

The 42nd SWAG Awards is proudly sponsored by telecommunication giants, MTN with support from; Activa International Insurance, GOIL, CDH Holdings, Ghana Free Zones Board, uniBank, Databank Limited, Stanbic Bank and StarTimes Ghana Limited.

Despite Game Boy’s prowess in the year under discussion, the crown at stake here befits Anthony Baffoe more than the Game Boy.

Let me quickly suffice to reiterate here that the views expressed in the above article do not reflect that of SWAG but the ‘god Writer.’
