Cudjoe Fianoo, CEO of Ashantigold SC has retreated that there is no confusion or misunderstanding between himself and fans of the club in Obuasi.
He says there is peace and it is imperative journalists gather information from credible fans and not random supporters who do not possess the facts and are just emotional about issues.
His comments come after some supporters claimed new kit sponsor KAPPA had bought the club.
“There is no problem between myself and the ‘Shafts’ (the supporters group of Ashgold) in Obuasi and also as PUMA is synonymous with the Black Stars, we have a contract with KAPPA to kit the club from next season”, Mr. Fianoo said.
When asked on Asempa FM today if indeed a private sponsor is taking over the Miners, Chief Executive Officer of the Obuasi club maintains they have not handed the team over to a private entity like people have been made to believe and the team is still owed by mining giants, AngloGold Ashanti.
“AngloGold Ashanti still owns the club only that we are looking for sponsorship from now till January when the mine resumes production and full responsibility. Other wise, they will only come on board as sponsors as we also look for partners in running the club”, he added.
The Miners had a difficult season after being crowned champions in the 2014/2015 season. Coach Bashir Hayford’s side finished 11th in the sixteen club league with 40 points in their kitty.
