The 28-year-old injured his ankle in their 2-1 win last week after coming on as second half substitute, setting up match winner Jonathan Kodjia.

The former Middlesbrough man was again called into action in Saturday’s home win over Fulham, although he had not totally recovered from the Reading setback, and played the last 35 minutes of the 1-0 triumph.

“It’s too early for Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards,” Bruce told pressmen about his squad’s injury situation on Thursday

“Albert Adomah is fine. He will be in the squad.”

Bruce then spoke on the game itself.

“You can’t play it down. It’s who handles it the best.

“You have to be fully committed because both sets of supporters demand that.

“Of course, in and around you, you have to remember to play the game because sometimes you can get lost in the occasion.

“Before you know it’s passed you by and you haven’t taken part in it. So it’s who can produce that bit of magic on the day.

“Let’s hope it’s one of our players and they can be the hero on the day.”

Villa will be chasing their fourth win of the season in Sunday’s travel to Birmingham.
