Results of 668 candidates who sat for the private West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in August have been withheld over alleged exam malpractices.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) announced this Wednesday when it released provisional results of 128, 707 other candidates who wrote the examination.
It said investigations into the alleged malpractices have commenced, noting the affected candidates will have their results “released as soon as the Council concludes its investigations”.
A statement signed by the WAEC Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe asked candidates who wrote the exam to check their results using the online platform on the Council’s website.
It assured the public that the online results platform is secured; warning that all forged results can be detected by the Council’s confirmation or verification system.
It has thus urged institutions and organisations to confirm or verify results presented to them directly from WAEC or access the confirmation or verification services online at the WAEC website.
“The Council wishes to use this opportunity to alert member of the public to be wary of the activities of fraudsters who contact candidates with the promise of bettering their results for a fee payable through mobile money transfers,” it warned.
