The leading Ghanaian opposition party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended four of its constituency chairmen for their alleged involvement in the protest which took place at the party’s head office last Thursday.
The four were alleged to have played various roles in gathering the masses that stormed the party’s headquarters with various placards questioning the leadership of the party for their decision to suspend national chairman Mr. Paul Afoko.
According to a letter signed by the NPP’s Ashanti regional secretary, Sam Payne the affected persons include Akwasi Nti of the Fomena constituency, Mr. Okai from the Ejisu constituency, I.K Brenya of the Asawase constituency and K. Dapaah have been suspended on the recommendations of the disciplinary committee.
He said their suspension take immediate effect.
“The issue was that they flouted Article 3(b)(iv) of the party’s constitution, where they did not uphold the decision of NEC [National Executive Committee] that Afoko has been suspended, and that they organized to go on a demonstration against the decision of the party,” the statement said.
“These persons have been suspended pending disciplinary action against them… the party in the Ashanti region is not going to tolerate any indiscipline action by members,” he added.
