He said when this is done allocation of resources in the area will go a long way to eliminate the high illiteracy rate, which he described as pre-requisite for violence in the area.

The Bishop was addressing some section of the media at the beginning of National Catholic Conference in Tamale.

He said there has been a sustained neglect of development in the area since colonial administration and called for a pragmatic effort to end the trend, adding that the Region is the largest in the country accounting for one-third of the total land mass of the country.

Bishop Naameh said it was a deliberate plan by the colonialists to work with some chiefs, traditional rulers and some tribes to serve their interest while subduing other tribes in the Region.

He said some chiefs control the resources of the area especially lands which leads to violent conflicts in the area to the detriment of other tribes, who are considered subservient to other tribes.

The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, called for a second look at the curriculum of higher institutions to create jobs for the youth.

He said the students may qualify through the university but are not fit for the industrial market, adding that companies will prefer to employ people and give them on the job training.

The President cited a graduate who offered Classics at the university but may not be able to fit into the job market based on a company’s employment criteria.

He said the way forward is the review of the curriculum of higher institutions to meet the job market to satisfy industries to provide jobs for the people in the country.

The Bishop pointed out that with the current constitution of the country, everybody has the right to reside where he or she wants and are entitled to resources of the area and the country.
