NPP Students Group Taunts NDC To Produce “we Are In the Lead Results”

A student group aligned to the NPP, Students Network for Nana Addo (STUNNAD) is insisting the leadership of the National Democratic Congress come clean and dispel any wrong notion that it ever led in last week’s presidential polls.

The two major political parties –NDC and NPP – held several counter press conferences after Wednesday’s elections with each claiming it is leading and in pole position to win the presidential election. The NPP’s presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo was eventually declared winner of the presidential election by the Electoral Commission.

Some have attributed the various claims to psychological warfare to assuage rising tempers of their followers.

But STUNNAD argues that it was unwarranted for the governing NDC to give false information to their supporters which have backfired and caused chaos in the country, when the opposition was later declared winner.

A statement issued by the group and jointly signed by its National President Chris Arthur, and Deputy Secretary Eric Ato Smith, also suspected that the claim was to lay grounds to rig the elections, if the opposition had gone to bed.

“What sets of pink sheets was the NDC collating, that were different from the Media houses and the rest of the political Parties?

“We strongly feel the consistent declaration “WE ARE IN THE LEAD”, was a deliberate attempt by the NDC and President Mahama to incite their supporters not to accept the final declaration. This we feel was a recipe for chaos.

“We are therefore calling on the leadership of the NDC to come out clear and tell the nation the actual data they received that indicated to them that they were leading.”

Nana Akufo-Addo won the presidential election with 5,716,026 votes representing 53.80% of the total votes cast with comfortable majority in Parliament. The incumbent president lost the election after obtaining just 4,213,277 votes translated into 44.40%.

“We are quite suspicious and that has elicited our action and we do this in the interest of Ghana,” it said.
