The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region is protesting how the Electoral Commission represented the party on the parliamentary election ballot papers.

The party says it is unacceptable for the EC to remove the initials of the party – NPP – from the ballot but maintained that of all the other political parties.

Correspondent Benjamin Aidoo told 3FM, the NPP led by its regional chairman, Antwi Bosiako (chairman Wuntomi) openly rejected the ballot papers in their current form.

“These are means being employed by the Electoral Commission to rig the election for the NDC,” Benjamin reported an official of the party as saying.

According to the NPP, their supporters are familiar with the initials more than the party emblem and even some of the parliamentary candidates.

Regional Secretary Samuel Pyne told 3FM’s Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah on Monday that the party has formally complained to the EC in the region.

The regional officers of the EC have also relayed the NPP’s complaint to the head office in Accra, he noted.

Samuel Pyne explained that the party detected the “discrepancy” while examining ballot papers for the various constituencies.

He wondered why the notice of polls posted around have the NPP logo as well as the initials, which is remarkably different from what is on the ballot papers.

He feared the discrepancy could create “confusion” if their supporters go to the polls and find something else other than what is on the notice of polls.
