The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Garu Constituency Albert Alazuuga Akuka has launched his campaign for 2016 elections.
Hundreds of party supporters thronged to Denugu-Garu as party officials took turns to address the enthusiastic crowd.
On stage and throughout the launch, the party sought to portray a united front but the absence of the outgoing Member of Parliament, Dominic Azimbe, who doubles as the Campaign Coordinator for the Upper East Region told a different story.
Alazuuga Akuka defeated Dominic Azimbe, one of the country’s longest serving legislators, after a serious battle in the NDC primaries last year.
Nonetheless, Mr Alazuuga Akuka praised his predecessor, saying he will continue with the projects and programmes he has undertaken.
He highlighted the developmental projects the NDC government led by President John Mahama has undertaken in the district.
He mentioned road networks, education, health facilities, water system and schools as some of the achievements of the party and asked the teeming crowd to come out in their numbers on December 7to vote massively for him and President John Mahama.
Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Mahama Ayariga said the Garu Constituency will remain one of the strongholds of the NDC.
Mr Ayariga charged party activists to campaign massively for the party’s reelection.
According to him, it is only the NDC that can bring massive development to the north.
The Bawku Central MP added that President John Mahama has served one term and that he needs additional four years to complete his good works.
“Alazuuga also needs four years. He has served as a District Chief Executive for four years and if you vote him to go to Parliament, he will add developments Azimbe has undertaken in the constituency,” he said.
The Deputy Upper East Region Minister and parliamentary candidate for Binduri Constituency, Dr. Robert Kuganab-lem, appealed to the constituents to bury their differences and get united and that it is the only way to retain President John Mahama and Alazuuga.
He called for house-to-house, door-to-door campaign to canvass votes for the party come December 7.
Dr. Kuganab-lem warned party supporters in the area not to make any mistake in voting skirt and blouse, saying it is with greater number of MPs that the president, John Mahama, can execute his Better Ghana Agenda.
