The Western Regional Police commander, DCOP Akuriba Yaagy says the police and the military command in the region have resolved last Sunday’s “unfortunate” attack by some military personnel on police officers who were at post at the Kwesimintsim police station.
According to the police commander, this is to promote reconciliation between the military and the police, noting that the two security agencies have enjoyed some cordial relationship over the years.
Some soldiers from the Takoradi Air Force base attacked the police station on Sunday after one Kofi Frimpong, a United Kingdom (UK)-based Ghanaian, who is believed to be an officer of the British Army, was arrested for dangerous driving.
DCOP Akuriba Yaagy would not give details of how the matter was resolved neither would he blame the military. He rather accused the media of publishing the incident which he claimed was full of inaccuracies.
Meanwhile, the flag officer commanding the western naval command who doubles as the 2 Garrison Commander, Commodore J. O. Kontoh has also stated that the incident is under control but the soldiers involved would be dealt with when found culpable after investigations.
He confirmed that although both parties have met to resolve the matter, the military high command frowns on such behavior.
He however assured that such “unfortunate” confrontation will not happen again.
