In a political season characterized by a series of setting the record straight press conferences, Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader in Parliament says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has a better record on road constructions than the National Democratic Congress-led government.

Providing documentary evidence to back his claim, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the nation’s road network stood at 37,321 km at the end of 2000, however, it was increased to 56,057km at the end of 2004 and moved further up to 67,291 km at the close of year 2008 when the NPP left power.

“Meanwhile the road network increased slightly to 71,419 km at the end of 2015 after seven years of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led government,” he said.

“The road network increased by 18,736 km and 29,970 km during the first and second term of the NPP-led administration respectively,” he said in an interview with Onua FM.

“This shows that NPP increased the road network by about 80% before leaving government but the NDC has failed to match this even with more resources than we had”, the Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency said.

He said a significant number of the roads constructed during the NPP era were targeted at commercial crops and food growing areas.

“This facilitated increased production of commercial crops for export and food for domestic consumption,” he added.

Early this year, the NDC General Secretary, Asiedu Nketiah rubbished NPP’s claim of constructing more roads than the NDC.
