“I’ve Erased NDC from My Memory” – NDP Founder, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

The founder and leader of the NDP, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has once again demonstrated her dissoci­ation with the party founded by her hus­band, the NDC, saying she has forgotten about the party.
According to her, she had become so focused and occupied with her new party that she has erased what the NDC meant to her from her memory.
Mrs. Rawlings gave the remark during an inter­view with Daily Guide in Volta Regional capital, Ho. She and some executives of the NDP had come to hold a closed-door meeting with party members and execu­tives at all levels in the region.
Answering a question regarding her daughter’s, Zanetor Rawlings’ political aspirations with the NDC which she (Nana Konadu) had rejected, she said although she no more believed in the NDC, there was nothing wrong with her daughter joining it.
“If she is standing for the N..N..N what is it called now…?” she quizzed struggling to remember the name of her former party. “I’ve erased it [NDC] from my memory”, she confessed.
She welcomed the move by her daughter to join the party and added that if any of her children joined other political parties apart from hers (NDP) she would welcome it.
For her, having diverse political views should not create confusion, but it should rather give the opportunity for people to share experiences and learn from one another. To this end, her husband, former President Rawlings’s position as the founder of the NDC only “makes the house exciting because we have an open political home.”
Recounting her child­hood days to buttress her point, Nana Konadu said, “The home that I come from, different political groupings used to come there. We grew up with balances in the home, no one being the best and no one being the worst. What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong.”
Mrs Rawlings posited, “I am not myopic in my politics at all. I believe that my husband is not myopic that is why he is able to criticize his own and will criticize anybody else along with it.”
She also bemoaned the acrimonious nature politics in Ghana and Africa while explaining, “I think that politics as a way of life is not a matter of life and death. However, truth is a matter of life and death.
“That for me is paramount, so even in the political thing, if people are telling the truth it is easy to deal with them but when they are lying then it is difficult for people to have that co­existence that I am talking about.
Truth, honesty and integrity are key in poli­tics.” Nana Konadu, who had earlier reportedly denied claims that she is the founder of the NDP, noted that her party is poised for the 2016 elec­tions, despite claims that it is dying. She urged all party members to remain resolute and keep to the game plan to take over power in 2016.
