President John Mahama has given a concession speech at his residence in Accra after phoning the president elect for the 206 elections, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to congratulate him and wish him well after “a hard fought battle.”
According to the president “I have done my bit”… “I will leave it to history to be the judge of my time in office…”
He said that “I would have cherished an opportunity to do even more but I respect the will of the people of Ghana” acknowledging that his keenest contender Nana Addo Danquah has been given the nod to take over the affairs of the republic of Ghana.
After a long period of wait, Ghana’s electoral commission announced that the opposition candidate, Nana Akufo Addo emerged winner of the 2016 elections with 5,716,026 votes translating into 53.85%.
President Mahama polled 4,713,737 representing 44.40%. There was jubilation across the country of people celebrating the victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The president thanked Ghanaians “for the opportunity to serve in the capacity as president” adding that “I remain committed to the unity and peace of our great nation.”
His term of office ends on the midnight of January 6 where a new president would be sworn in on the 7th to manage the affairs of the country.
