The Ghana Health Service has dismissed reports of stolen vehicles in its Upper East Regional Directorate.
According to the reports, Dr Koku Awoonor-Williams, who headed the Directorate in the recent past, is in the center of five missing vehicles.
The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) is said to have initiated investigations into the issue when its attention was drawn to it.
But in a press release received on Thursday, January 26, the Service says the allegations are “spurious” and “unfounded”.
It said no vehicles have been stolen nor missing from the Service.
“The Service wishes to put on record that Dr Awoonor-Williams has done nothing untoward with respect to the management of the vehicles during his stewardship in the Upper Regional Health Directorate.
“It is noteworthy that the Service has already provided all the relevant information with respect to these publications to CHRAJ…”
It says the matter should be put to rest as it takes a strong exception to the issue making rounds on social media “to dent the integrity and reputation of hardworking staff of the Service who have over the years rendered meritorious services to the country and endeared themselves throughout their working life”.
