The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations kicked off on Saturday, January 14 at the Stade de l’Amitie in Libreville, Gabon.
Though there were four goals on the opening day, there were no winners.
Hosts Gabon were held to a 1-1 draw by debutants Guinea Bissau in the inaugural game.
2015 African Footballer of the Year and tournament post boy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring after a goalless first half but the Wild Dogs equalized before the end of the game.
The second game saw four-time champions Cameroon unable to clinch a win off the Stallions of Burkina Faso.
The 2013 finalists equalized through Issoufou Dayo after FC Lorient striker Benjamin Moukandjo had given the Indomitable Lions the lead.
The second day – Sunday, January 15 – will see one of the tournament favourites, Algeria, taking on Zimbabwe, who last appeared at the tournament in 2006.
Senegal, also in Group B, will later in the day take on Tunisia, who won the trophy on home soil in 2004.
