Specialists in orthopaedic healthcare delivery, FOCOS, is hosting a US-based orthopaedic surgeon and his team for five days as part of a medical volunteer initiative called the ‘Joint Trip’.
Dr. Kyle Swanson together with his Physician Assistant Gerry Berberick and Product Representative Sara Campbell are collaborating with the hospital’s Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Joseph Adjei-Ogyaadu, to conduct surgical treatments for over twenty patients over the five-day period.
“FOCOS has strong ties with the international community and Dr. Swanson with his team are here to assist us with complex joint reconstruction,” said Dr. Joseph Ogyaadu.
As part of the initiative, the hospital received donated medical supplies from Exactech Incorporated, Stryker Osteologic, US as well as Tecres SPA, Italy towards patient treatment.
The “Joint Trip” is an annual event where Specialists from the USA, particularly the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, visit the FOCOS to contribute towards quality patient care.
Commenting his experience, Dr. Kyle Swanson said, “I have conducted several surgeries with FOCOS Hospital over the past 11 years and always look forward to join the team every year because of their state-of-the art equipment as well as their knowledgeable expertise in Orthopaedic healthcare delivery”.
Dr. Swanson is a renowned hip and knee replacement specialist from Minnesota with close to two decades of experience in different continents.
He has conducted close to 50,000 joint reconstruction procedures in his career.

The hospital recently received two awards from the Institute for Governance Research Leadership and Technology in Nigeria for their Leadership in Orthopaedic healthcare delivery in Africa and an Honorary Award in Export for Orthopaedic Care by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, respectively.
