Exim Bank Ghana has donated two tractors to has donated the two of the winners at this year’s National Farmers’ Day.
Thirty-nine -year old Ariku Martin Akudugu from the Upper East Region who was first runner up for this year’s best farmer and Samuel Abiyaga from Builsa North who won National Lives Stock Farmer were each given a brand new tractor by the Bank.
Formerly EDAIF, EXIM Bank has been a key stake donor in supporting farmers and the celebration of farmer’s day over the years.
Acting CEO of Exim bank, Dr Osei Baffour, explained the decision to donate the tractors to the farmers stemmed from the fact that EDAIF started with a mandate on agriculture and agro processing.
Dr Baffour also noted that EDAIF, now Exim Bank Ghana, will remain committed to its usual support to farmers.
The theme for this year’s event, ” Agriculture; A Business Response to Economic Growth,” he said is in line with the mandate of EXIM Bank.
In a related development, Dr Baffour noted the EXIM Bank has is not here to compete with commercial banks but to fill those gabs that are left by commercial banks. He noted the Bank will not be taking deposits from customers.
This means, EXIM Bank can borrow from donors and other agencies that have interest in the businesses that they do.
Addressing farmers at this year’s event, President John Mahama lauded EDAIF, now Exim for sponsoring the Rice Sector Support Programme (RSSP) which has helped increase rice production to over 60 percent 60 per cent.
