The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has suspended its nationwide strike and asked members to return to lecture halls.
President of the Association, Reverend Joseph Nkyi Asamoah, says the decision is in response to assurances by the education and finance ministries to address their grievances.
The teachers withdrew their services on September 11 2016, citing unfair treatment in their elevation to tertiary status which they say should reflect in an increase in their salaries.
CETAG insisted the new status of the colleges of education as tertiary institutions places additional responsibilities on members, hence the need for a review of conditions of service.
After failed attempts to get their grievances addressed, the teachers suspended teaching and other academic activities.
The National President of the Association, however, says the industrial action has been shelved after satisfactory meetings with their employers.
Rev. Asamoah has urged members to resume work and prepare for the upcoming academic year.
