It’s been twelve good months since the latest kid on the block in the English radio fraternity emerged. The Station which was initially “nameless” because it operated with its frequency 92.7 was eventually named on November 30, 2016 by the New Morning Show Host, Winston Amoah.
On January 21 2016 however the Omanhene of the Essikadu Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nkestia IV launched the Station saying that 3FM 92.7 “was going to be the hope and difference the whole of Ghana had been waiting for”.
In what has been a walk down memory lane, many presenters, producers, resource persons as well as key staff shared some memories.
Nana Akua Edubea Obeng who was the first Producer for the Sunrise Morning Show has this to say:
“I miss the entire team even though I know you are doing well because I monitor you. It’s been a great joy and great working with you except that I don’t miss the early morning call of 4am daily to produce the Show.”
TV3 Morning Show host, Bright Nana Amfo who was the first Sunrise Morning Show presenter recounted the journey.
“The experience has been exciting. On the first day when we had to air, Bridget Oto and myself were very hesitant and jittery. This is because the experience was not like TV where you see visuals; here you were only speaking to imaginary listeners. In fact, we hesitated for about 15 seconds before Bridget Otto took the lead.”
It was also important to touch on what has made the Station to stand out in its delivery despite challenges. Head of Station, Petra Aba Asamoah explained that being a new station with stiff competition, it was important to insist on high standards which has paid off.
“We were beginning a journey we wanted a particular standard so we needed to be fair and firm but we’re thankful that we’ve gotten where we are now. It’s important that we acknowledge the immense contribution that David Max Fugah made in setting up this station. We also acknowledge Felix Dontoh, Fred Chidi, Gabriel Bosompem and all others we have contributed to the establishment of 3FM. We also acknowledge and appreciate the support of our sponsors and clients.”
Some other staff shared their memories on the journey so far. Listeners also joined in the celebration with calls and messages before the cutting of the Anniversary Cake.
So 3FM is only a year but by dint of hard work and the Grace of God has already chalked some successes. The Management and Staff say they are determined to make a significant difference in the Media Landscape.
