The Monkey State of Ghana Politics.

*I walked on quietly as I followed the tour guide. I admired the beauty of nature as the cold breeze blew away my hurtful thoughts of yesterday. The trees danced about harmoniously but I still was yet to see the inhabitants of such a peaceful kingdom. I journeyed on till I heard the tour guide whistle and immediately he whistled, he asked me to look up and up there sat the quiet hungry-looking monkeys. The first question I asked was how I could get them down to play with me. He showed me the trick and that was luring them with a banana and to my surprise, they came rushing to the ground at the sight of the banana*

Politics of today can be likened to the happenings in a monkey sanctuary or kingdom. A kingdom where the needs of the poor citizens are only seen when the higher animal needs its help. Politics of today has downplayed the intelligence of electorates by leaving them to starve for years only to feed them when they need them. The likelihood that a long-starved man will accept anything called food is very high and so this is the fashionable trend that our politicians of today have taken to.

It is therefore not surprising to see them ploughing the very roads they ploughed before and promised to construct years before to sell the same message of construction wrapped around money and foodstuffs. Definitely, the hungry will unwrap hurriedly and dump the wrappers only to focus on the food which they have been starved of. They get over-filled and lie lazily like a python that has swollen a cow only to be dragged to the polls to do the bidding of the good Samaritan who served them. They only gain consciousness after the food and items have digested and decayed only to realise that the wrappers of promises were just deceptions and had been lost to food.

I took a walk down the streets of Accra one night and the scene was horrifying. On the streets were piles of humans wrapped in tattered clothes but in the day, these people are given political armory and gowns to gallivant and chant behind these very people that know not where they sleep. Until, we see ourselves no more as monkeys that respond to whistles of lies and deception, our country will forever be in turmoil. We might enjoy the peace but what is the use of atmospheric peace when we have no peace in our hearts?

What is the use of atmospheric peace, when we have no peace in our hearts? When we have allowed ourselves to be reduced to monkeys whose masters know not the positions and styles in which they sleep at night or how they swing from one tree to the other but are only concerned with how to show them bananas to get them to their sides. Look around and see how fast others have come and gone. Are we going to allow the pleasures of sight and our gullible mouths to direct and fool us?

This is the time to rise above our gullible mouths and take off scales of luxuries of time from our eyes. Hand in hand, side by side, we must walk our nation from doom. It takes not one or two but the efforts of us all to arise and save the nation. Note that if it collapses, it collapses on us all especially the weak ones who can’t swing so high.
