One-Touch What, Omane-Boamah?

If I were in the Mahama cabinet (God forbid!) and was living high on the hog like it was Christmas every day in Ghana, I would also say the same thing that Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah was reported to have told a teeming audience of a maiden Zongo Youth Conference somewhere in the Eastern Region (See “Nobody Can Stop Mahama’s One-Touch Victory – Omane-Boamah” Starrfmonline.com / Ghanaweb.com 8/10/16). I suspect the venue of the ZYC was in the region’s capital of Koforidua.

The Minister of Communications was also reported to have imperiously declared that “No man or woman or animal” could stop Little Dramani from clinching a one-touch victory in the December polls. This obviously is the declaration of either an inebriated clown or the speech of a man suffering from the onset of acute dementia. In Shakespearean parlance, it is called hubris. And in the English language, there is an old maxim which says that “The beginning of one’s epic failure or fall is presaged by an incontinent expression of pride.”

Among the Akan majority populace of Ghana, we often say that “When the beast is on the verge of death, it kicks.” The fact of the matter is that the National Democratic Congress’ Abongo Boys have almighty death staring them dourly in the face. But instead of pleading for mercy or respite, they have quixotically decided to put up a pretense of bravado. And this is all well and good, especially if you are starkly naked and all by yourself in the sanctum of your bedroom and standing in front of your dressing mirror and looking at your own reflection.

I also hope that the notorious scofflaw was able to catalogue a litany of development projects that the National Democratic Congress has undertaken for the benefit of the residents of our Zongo communities, because a recent survey conducted by the Accra-based Center for Democratic Development (CDD) revealed that at least 70-percent of Ghanaians are of the firm belief that the country’s economy is headed in the wrong direction. I am pretty certain that the dear reader understands fully what the CDD social science think-tankers are implying about the real performance of President Mahama and his Flagstaff House Abongo Boys and Faux-Feminist gofers. It means that only the political kleptocrats of both ideological divide and their families, relatives and close associates are enjoying the sweat and toil of the rest of the 27-million-plus citizens and residents of the Republic of Ghana.

Needless to say, in every Republic around the globe, it is the adult men and women with the ballot – in Ghana, we say “the ink-wet thumb” – who call the shots or decide who will be the next Chief Resident of the Flagstaff House. And so it is not clear precisely what he means when the Mahama Town-Crier avers that absolutely “no man or woman or animal” can stop the Mahama Posse from entrenching themselves in the Flagstaff House. Actually, the over 70-percent of the Ghanaian electorate who are convinced that our national economy has been decidedly run aground are the very ones who are surely going to kick these profligate barbarians out of the People’s Palace. They are the ones who represent the voice and mind of Divine Providence.

Nearly every reputable think-tank about the salutary business of researching and gauging the level and capacity of our socioeconomic development under the chaotic tenure of President John Dramani Mahama, has been virulently accused of being either the surrogate or an appendage of the Akufo-Addo-led main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). That goes to show the well-meaning and levelheaded critical thinker that the NDC Abongo Boys and Girls have absolutely no visionary or foresighted development agenda for the country. Which is why they have vacuously and diffidently resorted to the language of boastful intimidation.

In Ghana, this kind of schoolyard-bully politician is called “Mr. Patapaa.” They are just “sound-boarding” Ghanaian voters to see exactly how many of them are as cowardly as the NDC Abongo Boys and Girls. That is precisely what dyed-in-the-wool political opportunists and charlatans like Messrs. Omane-Boamah and Anyidoho mean, when they talk of Little Dramani’s clinching a one-touch victory in the December 7 presidential election.
