Having been a Member of the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) for over 20 years had the privilege to observe many Politicians from various Parties at close range be it Ministers of Parliamentarian. Seeing those going about their daily work was a clear indication that Democracy is corrupting people.
Democracy is the best Political System Mankind has come up with until today. As nothing Humans invent is perfect, the faults and weaknesses in Democracy must be exposed after all.
Germany was the first country in the world having seen the Green Movement. Anti-Atomic Power Stations, Anti-Environment Destruction, Anti-Capitalism, Anti-Male Dominance, Anti-Imperialism and other demands were in the hearts and minds of Young and Old in the Green Movement which soon spread into Holland, France, Denmark and crossed the English Channel into UK’s minds. “Alternative” behavior in handling the structural and dogmatic challenges of a newly formed Movement where seeing Joshka Fischer, later Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice-Chancellor, having no extended formal school education but being engaged in street fights against the NATO Double Treaty to take Pershing and Cruise Missiles out from German ground, in Sneakers among Government Ministers while pregnant Delegates knitted at Conventions scarves for the next Winter season and young Mothers openly breastfeeding their newly Born following serious Debates about a much needed change of the World order.
Petra Kelly and her Husband to be, General Graf Gerd Bastian, were the Symbols of a new Generation of Politicians to address the needs of many angry about the political Establishment and Destruction of the future of their children. End of 1970’s into 1980’s Citizen took to the street of Europe in protest for “Make Love, not War” like it had never been seen before.
Rudolf Bahro, Dissident and leftwing Author from East-Germany, had strongly advocated for the Green Movement to be transformed into a Political Party to be effective and capable in regional Parliament (Germany has 16 States) and German Bundestag, for the desired Change to happen. Among the Members of the Green Movement it was a serious and heated debate whether to become a Political Party or stay a Movement as some had voiced their concern about a possible influence of Power on their mindset for it not to be corrupted and to always ask for the Maximum of their Demands instead of having to make compromises.
General Graf Gerd Bastian (he later killed his wife Petra Kelly and took his own life after the murder) was seen as the much needed Face of the Establishment to have successfully made the Mind change from a Hardliner on the Hardthoehe (Ministry of Defense in Germany) to a Softy that sees the need for a clean, peaceful and secure environment with peace at heart and love on all lips around the world. Mahadma Gandhi was very much in the mind of the people with the upcoming of Mother Theresa in Calcutta (India) the simple Nun and Saint from Albania.
Each State in Germany saw a different Political Party for the same political cause until the time came in the middle of 1980’s the Green Party entered into the German Federal Parliament in Bonn, the Bundestag.
Being Newcomers on the Political Parquet, CDU/CSU, FDP and SPD took advantage of them by using the Parliament Regulations against them to push their own Agenda through. For two years the Green Party was played around with not winning any ground in the political Arena. SPD listened to the words and demands of the people out in the country. As many were at the political edge of their own ideology, they embraced them and portrayed them as their copyright from the past.
MP of the Green Party opposed using the Car Pool of the Bundestag or fly with Lufthansa, insisting to use bikes from Bonn Train Station to “Langer Eugen”, the Office Building of the Parliament in Bonn and take Train rides to use less Carbon dioxide and protect the environment while using their old stinking Citroens reaching protest sides in the local areas to place their placates before Atomic Power Stations.
Before her sudden death Petra Kelly insisted on using the Car Pool of the Bundestag, fly Airplanes for faster reach of her Assignments. All other MP of her Party followed her example defending their change of mind towards their Party Members and the general Public to have done so to optimize their performance of their Duties being elected for.
The Green Party Elite had foreseen that for the second time standing to be elected into German Bundestag, old Voters would no longer support them but turn to their back on them. Rudolph Bahro strongly advocated successfully to win over ultra conservative CSU Member that see Acid Rain falling in the Forest of Bavaria being emotional attached to unspoiled Woods. In order to win again, so his Propaganda, certain compromises needed to be made. He knew instinctively, if the Green Party would lose seats in their second attempt to enter German Bundestag, shame and defeat would lie heavily on their political legacy endangering their March forward to ever more Local and Federal Elections victories.
Once being Vice-Chancellor, Joschka Fischer took off his Sneakers, was ever more seen in polished shoes and well-chosen suites carrying Statesman words never heard from him before on his lips that made him to be a Professor at Princeton University/USA after ending time in office while having never ever studied himself at a University.
An Individual that is incorruptible by character with a good heart for his people performing like a tough teacher to bring out the best his people can be, once a Dictator can never establish a corrupt System.
Democracy is a Political System not a Society Concept; the fine, but vital line between those two is often misunderstood by Non-Professionals or In-Experienced Persons and Parties in the political arena.
