Beneficiaries of the National Youth Employment Agency (YEA) across the country have threatened to withdraw their services on Friday, June 16 should the government fail to pay them their allowances.
Government through YEA announced the suspension of payment of allowances to over 60,000 beneficiaries to enable it audit the scheme’s payroll following the detection of fraudulent activities.
The new management of the scheme claimed thousands of people who do not work for the scheme had their names on their payroll.
But the beneficiaries in a statement issued Wednesday said the suspension of their salaries was affecting them.
“This has affected the activities of most of the beneficiaries. As the Agency is aware, most of the beneficiaries are working in the rural areas and due to the nonpayment of the allowances, they are stranded at their working areas .
The situation, according to the beneficiaries, are not different from the situation in the urban areas.
“We the beneficiaries of YEA across the country want to state it clearly to the government, and the directors of Agency that, if they fail to pay us our allowances and the arrears owed us within 13th and 16th June,2017,we are going to withdraw our services until our demands are fulfilled,” they threatened.
