Germany held on to a Lars Stindl first half goal to win the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup after beating Chile in the final on Sunday.
The world champions defied all odds to win the tournament, coming under a barrage of criticism for presenting a second-string side.
Captained by Julian Draxler, the young team progressed from Group B to make it to the final after beating Mexico 4-1 in the semi-final.
Chile had trailed the Germans in the same group.
The two sides’ group game ended 1-1 with Stindl cancelling an early Alexis Sanchez goal.
Chile began Sunday’s final a more aggressive side coming close to opening the score on countless occasions in the first few minutes.
But after a quarter-of-an-hour goalless game, the world champions capitalized on the defensive sloppiness of La Roja to open the score, the third goal in the tournament for Stindl.
That goal proved to be decisive as the score ended 1-0.
Germany as a result win the tournament for the first time and become the second team after France to hold both trophies for the World Cup and the Confederations Cup.
