The Minority in Parliament says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not inform the House about his recent trip to Belgium as per Article 59 of the 1992 Constitution.

Members of the caucus are, therefore, demanding the whereabouts of the leader of the country.

According to Article 59 of the constitution, the president cannot leave the country “without prior notification in writing signed by him and addressed to the Speaker of Parliament”.

But that was not done before President Akufo-Addo’s departure to Brussels, Belgium for UN meetings, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu noted on the floor.

“Mr Speaker, as we speak [per] message of the evidence, since yesterday the people of Ghana deserve to know the whereabouts of the number person.”

He said the president by not notifying Parliament has shown disrespect to Ghanaians.

“The president must demonstrate respect to the people of Ghana and the Parliament of Ghana by indicating in writing his whereabouts.”

He observed that: “We are not surprised,” criticising the composition of cabinet, which he claims falls short of constitutional demands.

“So, Majority Leader, where is your president?”

The Member of Parliament of Tamale South Constituency said the president himself is disrespecting the oath he swore on January 7, 2017 and the earlier he appears the better for him.

But 3FM‘s Mercydarlyn Lokko later reported that Speaker Mike Aaron Oquaye read the president’s communication to Members.
