Residents of Asuodei in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region have remained dismayed over the birth of a lamb with a face that looks like that of a human being.

Following the birth of the lamb which reportedly occurred on Saturday, residents and leaders of the community has been made restless by thoughts of what could have brought about such a strange happening in their land.

Reports reveal that the Asuodei Chief, Nana Druye Adarkwa II, called for the lamb with human-like face to be brought to his palace minutes after it was delivered on Saturday. A meeting of the traditional council was also held before its burial the following day being Sunday.

For the traditional rulers, the abnormal creature could eventually mean a curse on the land, and therefore calls for a special burial of the lamb, as well as a special ritual cleansing of the land.

According to Nana Druye Adarkwa II who spoke to Nhyira FM, the creature cannot be taken for an ordinary sheep, pointing out that it has eyes, eyebrows, mouth and nose which look like those of a human being.

Nana Druye is also said to have sent emissaries to search for the owner of the sheep, pending performance of the rituals. He believes the rituals will forestall any bad omen that may befall him and his people.

This is however, not the first time a human-like lamb has been born. A similar incident occurred in Russia where a sheep gave birth to a lamb with an incredibly human-like face.

Also in a village in South Africa last month [June], a sheep gave birth to a human-like lamb. In the South African case, not only the lamb’s face took the form of that of a human, but also the entire body.

Photos of the animal which was born still had caused an uproar on the internet, with many giving it diverse interpretations, with bestiality progeny being prominent among them.

Although the people of Ahafo Ano South in Ghana are looking at the bizarre incident mostly from a spiritual angle, there are many other possible reasons behind human-like animals. Below are some of them.

Medical research has proven that virus infections in early stages of pregnancy may infect an animal’s unborn child, leading to the development of malformations in the growing foetus. This could possibly be the case of the Ahafo Ano South lamb . An example of such viral infections is Rift Valley Fever.

According to Vippets, maternal absorption of toxins from chemical substances like insecticides, fungicides, vaccines or other medications have been known to create birth defects in the unborn animals. Most times, the effects of toxins on the foetus occurs randomly, giving the affected animal a really weird look at birth.

Malnutrition, depending on the nutrient lacked, and its severity could result in malformation of a foetus in pregnant animals. And as mentioned earlier, the deformity could end up giving the affected animal a look that is completely different from its original specie.

While many associate human-like animals with the  supernatural, so many others believe that it is a product of human-animal mating. However, findings from scientific and medical research has completely ruled out the possibility of a hybrid offspring.

Have You Seen This Man Who Cannot Wear Clothes?

Among other very many differences between animals and humans reproductive-wise, sheep particularly have 28 pairs of chromosomes while humans have 23 pairs. Thus, a sheep’s ovum and a human sperm can never fertilize nor result in the development of any kind of viable life form.
