Ghanaian ISIS Fighters -A report is rife that about 50 to 100 Ghanaians have joined the dreadful terrorist group, Islamic State (ISIS) in Libya. The report issued by the Libyan government said that Ghanaian migrants feature prominently as members of the terrorist group.

Libya’s Head of Investigations at the Office of the Attorney General, Al-Seddiq al-Sour. who released the reports, said that the government had identified other countries such as Senegal, Mali, and Niger, as also having their nationals as part of ISIS in Libya.

The report placed Ghana in the second highest category suggesting that between 50 to 100 Ghanaian migrants are frontline fighters for IS in Libya.

Other countries like Gambia, Senegal, Niger, Chad, Mali, and Eritrea were all mentioned as nationals aiding the Islamic group.

This recent development takes our minds back to some incidents where Ghana nationals have been directly or indirectly involved with the dangerous extremist group.

A notable instance is that of a graduate from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Nazir Nortei Alema who joined the terrorist group in 2015 and got killed in a battle.

There is also the report about Harry Sarfo, a German Ghanaian, had also in the early part of 2017, confessed to having been a fighter for ISIS.

These and other seemingly unconfirmed reports caused the minority in Parliament to express concerns over the possible oblivious acceptance of these so-called Ghanaian ISIS Fighters into the country.

The Minority has charged the government to ensure that the Ghanaians who have reportedly joined the dreadful terrorist group, Islamic State in Libya, do not return to the country, without strict security clearance.

The minority says that “Government must put measures in place to ensure that none of these alleged Ghanaian Islamic State fighters are allowed to return to Ghana without strict security clearance and surveillance,”

The government on her part has assured that it is investigating the report from the Libyan authorities on the alleged terrorist persons.
