This compensation by the government was presented to the families on Friday, December 8 at by the Vice President of the country, Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia.

While making the presentation, Bawumia expressed the government’s condolences, also announced that the government will foot the hospital and funerals expenses of the departed students who died last week.

It has been a period of fear and panic following what many have called mysterious deaths involving four students of KUMACA in the past week. Four other students had died earlier in April 2017, bringing the total number of deaths to eight students.

The outbreak which begun on the 30th of November this year has seen the death of 4 students out of 44 reported cases. Though the school refuted the claims, it was widely speculated that the cause of the mysterious deaths was as a result of food poisoning.

These had earlier received wide acceptance since the students allegedly suffered similar sicknesses before giving up the ghost. But the school debunked the claims on grounds that thousands of healthy students in the dormitories have all been eating the same meals.

Other speculations which made rounds in the media were rumors that the deaths were diabolic or caused by an evil spirit. These claims were championed by founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah.

The Prophet had said that the mysterious deaths happening at Kumasi Academy in the Ashanti Region is caused by an evil spirit.

Laboratory test results showed that majority of the samples from students of (KUMACA) tested Positive for Influenza Type-A H1N1.

The Ministry of Health who addressed questions about the mysterious KUMACA deaths on Thursday, December 7, made the discovery after his outfit, together with some experts, took samples of blood, Cerebro-spinal fluids, and throat swabs from some students and examined them.

Other maladies like Ebola, Meningitis, Encephalitis and Viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF), which were all included in the tests, all came out negative. The test results for Ebola put to rest fears of the cause of the KUMACA deaths being Ebola as earlier speculated.

The Ghana Health Service Influenza Surveillance Unit and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have rolled out emergency measures to stop further deaths.
