We’ll Invoke Curses On Akufo-Addo – DKM Customers

Customers of Microfinance Companies in the Brong Ahafo which turned out to be Ponzi schemes have threatened to invoke curses on President Akufo Addo, for failing to honour his promise of retrieving their monies for them.

According to them, the President after wooing them to vote for him in the December 2016 elections, he and his government has kept their silence on the issue, much to their chagrin.

Then New Patriotic Party flagbearer ahead of the general elections assured defrauded customers of some microfinance companies in the Brong Ahafo Region that he will retrieve all monies they lost if he is elected in December.

Nana Akufo-Addo gave the promise during his interaction with the chiefs and people of Busunya in the Nkoranza North constituency, to end his 5-day tour of the Region.

DKM Microfinance Company and four others, namely Little Drops Financial Services, God is Love Fun Club, Jaster Motors and Investment Limited and Care for Humanity Fun Club, which turned out to be Ponzi schemes, took deposits from clients, paid huge unsustainable interests on the deposits and later absconded with clients’ investments when the companies became insolvent.

This situation negatively affected the economic, social and political activities in the Region, with some customers said to have died out of frustration.

Following series of demonstrations, government through the Bank of Ghana (BoG) intervened and froze the assets of the companies in its bid to retrieve the monies.

Then John Mahama-led NDC government was accused of doing very little to protect the interest of customers.

However, Nana Akufo-Addo as an immediate measure to bring respite to the people said he will retrieve their monies if voted to power.

“If voted as President, I will do everything in my power to get your monies back to you,” he told the excited crowd.

The NPP leader had doubts about the government’s willingness to retrieve the money and said “it’s been promises galore by President Mahama”.

But during President Akufo Addo’s 3-day tour of the region last week, the defrauded customers were expectant to hear the President say something positive about their situation but surprisingly to them shied away from the controversial issue.

Speaking to Kasapa News, one of the angry customers of DKM, Eric Agyei stated that he’ll resort to the gods to deal with the president for deceiving them.

“Those of us who are not students of Nursing and Teacher training institutions what do we benefit from the restoration of the allowances. I’ll invoke the wrath of the dreaded Antoa nyama (god) on the president to deal with him ruthlessly. I’ll not allow the President to go free after failing to fulfill his promise made to us. You promised us to refund our monies if we vote you into power, you are in power now and you fail to say a word about your promise while you’re in our region, instead you’re talking about the restoration of Nurses and Teacher trainees allowances. Some of us are taking care of our children in such insitutions, if the President pays back our monies, we’ll be able to cater for children who are studnts and they will not need allowances from the state. Just as it happened in Nkoranza where curses were rained which delayed the conduct of District Assembly elections, we’ll also hold the President by his own words and rain curses on him if he does not tell us anything convincing immediately.”
