A Regional Disability Network (RDN) has been formed in the Upper East Region to support the Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD) to embark on vigorous advocacy programmes that would promote the welfare of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

Members of the Network are made up of various experts drawn from institutions such as the Commission on Human Rights Administrative Justice, National Commission for Civic Education, Department of Children, the Traditional Authority and the media.

Apart from supporting the GFD in championing advocacy activities the members are expected to ensure that they mainstream policies and programmes that would promote the welfare of PWDs in their respective working environment.

The Project, dubbed;” Expanding Participation for PWDs,” is being funded by the USAID and implemented by the GFD.

Ms Beatrice Akua Mahmood, the Project Coordinator, said the Network was formed as a result of concerns raised by the regional branch of GFD about resources and operational material challenges.

She impressed upon the members to bring their expertise to bear by broadening the knowledge of the public on disability issues towards an inclusive society and attract the attention of policy and decision makers.

Mr Moses Fordjour, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the GFD, taking the participants through resource mobilisation and networking, appealed to the media to devote appreciable airtime to promote issues affecting PWDs.

Mr Yaw Duah Akuamoah, the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist of USAID, called on the team to prompt the Government about promises it has made in its manifesto about PWDs to ensure their implementation.
