Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari, has given the controversial Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Daniel Bugri Naabu, 48 hours to retract claims felonious comments against him.
Mr Naabu has up to 6:00pm Wednesday to write the apology letter to retract his comments against Mr Bukari failure or refusal of which would result in a defamation suit against the former.
The NPP chair had suggested in a radio interview Monday that Mr Bukari and the Gender and Social Protection Minister, Otiko Afisa Djaba had a hand in the murder of the late Upper East Regional chairman of the NPP, Adams Mahama, in 2015.
“You could remember Adams Mahama who certainly died when he was bathed with acid…You’ll be surprised that some of these people who masterminded the killing of Adams have come to take positions in the government … like the Upper East Regional Minister. He was deeply involved in the masterminded killing of Adams,” Mr Naabu told Radio XYZ Monday.
The allegation has caused Mr Bukari to instruct his lawyers led by Samson Lardy Ayenini,
“to demand a retraction and apology” from Mr Naabu for what the lawyers described as defamatory comments.
“Our client takes very seriously your false forcefully yet direct accusation of felonious conduct on his part of ‘deep involvement’ in connection to the unfortunate murder of the former regional chairman of the NPP in 2015 and for which named individuals are presently standing trial at the High Court.
“Our client’s demands are for an immediate unconditional, unequivocal written retraction and apology for those unprovoked and maliciously defamatory statements,” the letter to Mr Naabu stated.
The lawyers say the allegations made by Mr Naabu “are completely false,” noting that it was for that reason that investigation authorities never linked Mr Bukari or any person associated with him was linked to the murder of the Mr Adams.
The apology, Mr Bukari demanded, “must contain an undertaking [by Naabu] never to repeat [the] said claims”
