Including six women, the chief executives had earlier gone through their confirmations successfully at their respective Assemblies.

The remaining three of the President’s nominees, Mr Kofi Adjei for Berekum Municipal, Mr Martin Obeng, Sunyani West and Abraham Mbanye, Sene East are yet to be confirmed by their various Assemblies.

The Assemblies had in earlier elections rejected the three nominees in separate elections conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission.

The 1992 constitution gives President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the sole prerogative to nominate the chief executives, after which the nominees must obtain two thirds of votes from their respective Assemblies for confirmation.

Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, who administered the ceremony in Sunyani charged the chief executives to be good communicators and promote transparency and accountability in the course of their duties.

He urged them to make good use of the opportunities provided them and work hard towards rapid socio-economic growth and development in their areas.

The Regional Minister asked them to take up the challenge to address the problems of poor sanitation and high youth unemployment.

Mr Asomah-Cheremeh underlined the need for them to ensure effective collaboration between the Assemblies and traditional authorities, civil society organizations and the media in identifying and addressing the immediate needs of the people.

He urged members of the New Patriotic Party not to overburden the chief executives with personal demands, but to support them in initiating programmes that would better the lots of the people.

On behalf of the chief executives, Mr Yaw Osei Boahen, Asunafo North District Chief Executive, thanked the government for their appointment.

He assured that he and his colleagues would work hard to justify the confidence the government and the Assembly members had reposed in them for the purposes of development.
