According to the Minister, who is also the Chairman of the Board, the Ministerial Advisory Board will enable the Ministry to realise its vision and also help it undertake the task to help government achieve its trade policy visions.

“We derive our operational framework from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manifesto and to that extent as a government, our number 1 priority is to put in place the policy framework that will help businesses expand and to create jobs,” he said.

Mr Kyerematen took the newly-appointed MAB members through government’s vision for Ghana that will be championed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

This he said is to equip members to “understand the context in which you are supposed to advise the Ministry.”

He added that the mission statement of the Ministry is “to develop a vibrant technology-driven competitive trade and industrial sector that will significantly contribute to inclusive, sustainable economic growth and employment creation.”

He explained government’s 10-Pillar Strategy to transform Ghana’s economy to an industrial one, which includes the ‘One District, One Factory’ policy, the provision of stimulus packages for companies that are financially challenged, the establishment of strategic anchor industries such as an automobile industry, etc.

The 12-members include Carlos Ahenkora and Robert Ahomka-Lindsey, both Deputy Ministers of Trade and Industry; Dawarnoba Baeka, the Chief Director of the Ministry; and James Asare-Adjei, President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).

The others are Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankwaosu I, President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI); Barima Dr Ofori Ameyaw I, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA); and Nana Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF). The rest are: Adelaide Ahwireng; Anthony Sikpa; Patrick Nimo; Adu Dankwa; Nana A. Marfo.

“The rational for selecting persons from both Public and private sectors to form the MAB is to benefit from their expertise and experiences in addressing issues confronting the Ministry,” Mr Kyerematen explained.

The establishment of the MAB is in line with Section 39 of the Civil Service Law 1993, PNDC Law 327. The Law requires every Ministry to establish a MAB to offer advice at the highest level for effective decision making, co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation.
