Acting Tema Metropolitan Engineer, Anthony Opoku Mensah’s fate hangs in the balance as he is to appear before General Assembly which is to pass a vote of no confidence this week.
This flows from his failure to appear on two occasions before a Public Relations Complaint Committee constituted to look into an alleged GH¢ 80,000.00 fraud case brought against him and Coordinating Director, Emmanuel Aboanor Nartey.
Sources told Adom News’ Kwame Yankah that though invitation was extended to the two, the Acting Engineer could not appear to assist in the internal investigation being carried out.
The alleged fraud case has also been picked up by the state investigative body, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Sources say, a developer seeking to secure permit to undertake a gas project at Tema New Town would have lost the above amount due to different figures coated by the two to help him circumvent the spatial planning process in obtaining such permit.
The Coordinator who is heading the Assembly in the absence of a Metropolitan Chief Executive allegedly issued the permit without knowing an earlier negotiation between the Engineer and the developer.
The Engineer infuriated and felt cheated by this act blew cover saying the Coordinating Director might have taken a lesser amount though he (Engineer) was demanding GH¢80,000.00.
Currently, there is a split among Assembly members as some throw their weight behind the Coordinating Director with the others supporting the Engineer.
Adom News is learning that the outcome of this case may affect some Assembly members linked to projects awarded and are yet to be paid for as monies for these could go back to chest.
