The Head of Department of Early Childhood Education at the University Of Education, Winneba (UEW) in the Central Region, Dr. Ahmed Jinapor, has charged institutions that are handling the alleged sale of contaminated fuel at the Bulk Oil Storage Transport Company Limited (BOST) to consider the plight o f the people of Ghana and not individuals.

The Senior Lecturer says “it is not about the MD. It is not about BOST but it is about what the good people of Ghana wants because Ghanaians had confidences in President [Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo] in fight corruption in the country and that should be the supreme”.

Dr. Jinapor said this on TV3’s New Day hosted by Bright Nana Amfoh while contributing to discussions of on the exoneration of the BOST MD, Alfred Obeng, over the alleged sale of five million litres of contaminated fuel to a private company.

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the National Security in their report on Tuesday in the case exonerated the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) Company Limited, Alfred Obeng Boateng.

Mr. Obeng Boateng was cited to have overseen activities leading to the sale of five million litres of contaminated fuel to two petroleum firms, Movenpiina and Zup Oil.

But investigations by the two state security agencies, however, indicate that he has no direct relationship with Movenpiina, one of the two firms in question, as alleged.

However, the Minority in Parliament has on the back of these revelations, accused the BNI of attempting to “cover up” the issue with their findings.

According to the Minority, the exoneration is a mere effort by the BNI to hide from the public the actual details of the issue.

Dr. Jinapor said: “I am not saying the BNI report was problematic but there are questions we need to ask ourselves. I don’t doubt the BNI but a couple of questions need to be asked”.

The Senior Lecturer said “under whose instruction did the BNI conduct these investigations because there was a committee constituted and chaired by the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, and was the BNI aware of that committee? If he [Minister] knew the BNI was going to investigate, he shouldn’t have constituted the committee in the first place. And look at the swift nature the BNI conducted the investigations”.

He added that “as we speak, there is an allegation against the former BOST boss [Kwame Awuah Darko] and is the BNI aware of it? What is the BNI doing about it? I would have wished the BNI wait”.

The Chief Executive Officer for the Wealth Vision Financial Service, Dr. David Kofi Wuako, who was also on the show, added that “if institution like BNI cannot be trusted by Parliament and Parliament must ask questions about its reports, then what about we the ordinary people”.

He said “if we are not sure our institutions are working to protect us, then I am afraid, so I think the BNI must come out clearly to with information that will make us all at ease”.
