Stop Predicting Doom For Akufo-Addo’s Gov’t – Prof Martey

The former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church says it is “unwise” to conclude the new government has failed when it is less than a year old.

Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey said it is not appropriate for anyone to measure the performance of President Akufo-Addo’s government within 110 days in power.

He told Joy News’ Eastern Regional Correspondent, Kofi Siaw at the official launch of C4C Homeopathic Clinic in Koforidua Monday, some of the government’s critics were in power for eight years but they did nothing worthwhile.

“I am calling on those unwise people to stop querying…[government] they should wait and pray that this present government delivers,” he observed.

The former Moderator of the Presby Church gained the reputation for speaking out against what he perceives to be wrong and several times this brought him on a collision course with some functionaries of the previous government.

He alleged in August 2016 he was offered $100,000 bribe and a 4×4 wheel drive by a politician he did not name, to stop speaking against the government.

He said he was also promised a plush house at Trassaco fitted with a swimming pool if he toned down his criticism of the government.

The Church under his leadership was seen by some members of the NDC as a political institution because of the rate at which Prof Martey critiqued the government.

But speaking months after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took the reigns of government; the outspoken man of God said Ghanaians should be interested in the success of the new government instead of its failure.

Prof Martey also cautioned the President to be wary of the men he has appointed to serve in his government.

“…NPP also has bad elements, even some of the appointees are not correct, they are corrupt,” he said.

He explained the way out of the corruption in the country is for the leaders to be men of integrity.

“Ghana has laws and if the laws are made to work, good health delivery [and others] will follow,” he said.
