US-based Ghanaian artist, SolomonAdufah in July 2017, returned to Ghana and took the pains to check up on Jake in his village, Asempanaye, and what he saw is really very encouraging. Speaking to Africa Check on his latest encounter with Jake Amo, Adufah said that although the little boy was on school vacation and was spending his holiday with family, he was still able to visit and check on him.

He also revealed that “Jake is also enrolled in an extracurricular programme at his school to help him with his English, maths and drawing,” adding that “the Ghana Education Services in the Eastern Region District will continue to monitor his progress in working relationship with Homeland Africa and his family.”

Jake was said to be 4 years old when Adufah visited his school in 2015. He is believed to be 6 now. Checkout what he looks like in the recent photos below:

Recall that an iconic picture showing a little chubby African boy with a pensive look on his face, seated at a desk and frantically writing on a piece of paper wildly went viral last year, leaving many wondering who the boy could be and the context within which the image was taken.

It was later in the year discovered that the boy in the image was actually a child from a village in Ghana named Jake Amo. Photos of the serious-looking little boy were taken by photographer Carlos Cortes in August 2015 when Solomon Adufah visited his school as part of his ‘Homeland Series’ where he travels to various African countries to help underprivileged children in local communities, providing them with resources and teaching them creative studies and arts.

According to Adufah, he developed special interest in Jake during the visit, owing to his ever gentle and committed attitude to learning despite his age and poor background. He had shared the little boy’s images on his Instagram page in January 2016, and people fell in love with them!

Homeland Africa is a charity organisation founded by Solomon Adufah with the major aim of providing educational resources for children on the continent.
