Kalveo Kindergarten and Primary School in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region which was under one big baobab tree has seen a facelift with an ultra modern 3-unit classroom block with teacher’s office with furniture, library with furniture, books, desk top computer, printer, and a washroom.

This gesture is by Tuma Kavi and funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) under the Local Civil Society Partnership programme.

The ultra-modern school facility was commissioned in Kalveo in the presence of all stakeholders.

As a deprived community, Kalveo has lagged behind in terms of development especially in the area of education, sanitation and health.

Since the introduction of school feeding in the community, enrolment of children less than eight years keeps on increasing every academic year.

Kindergarten pupils used to study under the big Baobab tree at the center of the community.

There is always a holiday whenever it rains or when the weather is above 35`Celsius and sometimes they join the primary block, making study difficult.

Due to these challenges confronting the kindergarten school, Tuma Kavi, a non-governmental organization based in Tamale and operating in the three regions of the north in partnership with KOICA constructed the ultra modern 3-unit classroom block.

In an interview, Executive Director of Tuma Kavi Rev. Mrs. Sanatu Nantogma said her outfit is confident that these valuable facilities will be used appropriately and maintained well.

She said their partnership with KOICA will provide more such facilities to deprived communities which lack these facilities in the area of health and sanitation.

The Deputy Country Director of KOICA, Seungmin Oh, said his outfit is determined to tackle at least half of United Nations’ development goals on education and health especially in the rural areas.

The District Chief Executivbe (DCE) for Kassena Nankana West, Clement Dandori, who represented the regional minister, thanked Tuma Kavi and KOICA for this good gesture and pledged Assembly’s support in extending electricity to the school and part of the community.

He cautioned school authorities to cultivate the habit of good maintenance so that other generations can benefit from the project.

Elizebeth Gwenia is a parent and expressed her joy on the project and has therefore thanked Tuna Kavi and KOICA for bringing hope to the community.

The construction of the school which was scheduled for six months took only four months to complete.

Also built is a KVIP with changing room for girls which the implementing organization and KOICA applauded.
