School Feeding Equipment, 2 Cars and Shops Destroyed By Fire

About seven container shops and two cars as well as school feeding foodstuffs for the Nurul Islamic Basic School have been destroyed by a Tuesday dawn fire at Suame Magazine, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The incident happened at a cluster of mechanic shops at a spot called Zone 10.

Victims who had their belongings burnt in the fire have begun counting their losses.

Although the cause of the fire is not immediately known, the victims mostly artisans, had their belongings including vehicle spare parts and refrigerators, all destroyed by the fire.

The incident according to some residents, started at about 2:30 am.

One of the caterers at the school, Salamatu Issah said they have suspended the feeding program until they get new utensils and foodstuffs.

She appealed to the school feeding secretariat to come to their aid.

Ashanti regional fire commander, DCFO Semekor Fiadzo said investigations have begun into the incident.
