NPP Victory Thanksgiving – Exactly one year today, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) emerged victorious in the 2016 presidential elections bringing an end to an eight-year rule of the now opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The ruling party is holding a thanksgiving ceremony to celebrate it’s December 2016 election victory.
As earlier stated, the event, being held at the Accra International Conference Center today, December 7, marks exactly a year since the party wrestled power from the John Mahama-led NDC government.
Ghana’s President Nana Addo, his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other leading members of the party will be at the NPP Victory Thanksgiving.
President Nana Addo defeated John Dramani Mahama in the election after polling 53.85% of the total valid votes cast, against Mahama’s 44.4%. Akufo-Addo’s victory shook the entire Ghana as he became the first to win an election against an incumbent.
Nana Addo’s win also made it the first time a total vote difference of more than 1 million was recorded, between the winner and his closest opponent in an election in Ghana.

The landslide victory of the NPP was widely attributed to a gross disaffection for sitting governments that have served 8 years in government, impunity and the perception of massive corruption in the NDC government among other things.
Ghanaians came out in their numbers to vote for Nana Addo who was touted as the answer to their problems. President Nana Addo came with promises of implementing policies that will transform Ghana like never before.
Free SHS, abolition of taxes, and many others were part of the promises made by the President who had earlier made two unsuccessful attempts at the presidency.
Nana Addo also promised to set up a factory in every district, build a dam in every village of the three Northern Regions, and provide a Ghc 1million development fund for every constituency, as some of the things he will do when he comes to power.
He also pledged to reintroduce the payment of a monthly allowance to nursing and teacher trainees in the country. This promise which has been fulfilled shook the entire Ghana.
This was because the NDC government had halted it with the reason that it wanted to invest the money into educational infrastructure to enable it to admit more trainees.
Nana Addo contested the NDC’s John Evans Atta-Mills in 2008 but lost. He again failed on his second attempt in 2012 against the NDC’s candidate John Mahama.
