The absence of a police officer prosecuting the assault case against 13 members of Delta Force has caused the Kumasi Circuit Court to adjourned the case to August 8.
The court presided over by Ms. Mary Senkyire heard Thursday morning that the police prosecutor handling the case, ACP Okyere Darko, was on leave hence his inability to show up in court.
Chief Inspector Hannah Acheampong who represented and informed the court of the prosecutor’s leave prayed the judge to adjourn the case to August 8 to which was granted.
The visibly unhappy lawyer for the accused persons, Matthew Appiah, expressed worry over the turn of events.
“We don’t know what the police are doing but we are not surprised. So far we have not heard anything from the police. We will have to find out from the police because we don’t know what is going on. We want to know the finality of this case”, he said.
The 13 were arrested after they stormed the office of the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator and allegedly assaulted him in the process.
He was prevented from performing his duties as he was yanked from his office on Friday, March 24, 2017
They subsequently escaped from custody while in court. This was after some of their members sparked confusion when they were arraigned conspiracy to assault a public officer and causing unlawful damage.
They were re-arrested when they turned themselves in to the Police after a warrant was issued for their arrest.
