Still on the Akufo-Addo wee claims, private legal practitioner and NDC loyalist Abraham Amaliba is suggesting that the hands that smoke wee should be cuffed, not the ones pointing at the one doing the smoking.

According to Lawyer Amaliba who was speaking on GHOne State of Affairs, Stadium only acted as a whistle-blower when he alleged that President Nana Akufo-Addo is a drug addict. Condemning Appiah Stadium’s arrest, the NDC member said that Appiah should have been respected as an informer instead of being treated as the suspect he pointed out.

“Appiah Stadium alleges the President takes ‘wee’ or smokes ‘wee’. Is it not a case of he pointing at somebody who is breaking the law? Wee smoking, possession and trading is an offence. So who should rather be handcuffed? …If somebody says you engage in this, if there are handcuffs to be put on somebody who should wear it?” Amaliba quizzed.

The Lawyer went ahead to suggest that the proper thing police should have done is to invite Appiah Stadium to assist them investigate the allegation that the President is living on hard drugs instead of treating him as a criminal.

“If you are inviting the person to assist you in investigations you do not put the person in handcuffs”, he stated.

Claims that Nana Addo Akufo-Addo lives on hard drugs is actually no news as the rumour has continued to raise its ugly head time and again for some years now.

Prominent among the claims is the Wikileaks report by former US Ambassador to Ghana, Pamela Bridgewater, on Akufo-Addo’s profile ahead of the 2008 elections.

The Akufo-Addo wee claims have however never received significant attention until Frank Kwaku Appiah popularly known as Appiah Stadium came up with his own allegations after the NPP leader became President.

Stadium who is an NDc communicator alleged in a viral audio that President Akufo-Addo smokes marijuana, a hard drug commonly known as ‘wee’ which is illegal in Ghana; an act that earned him an arrest by the Ashanti Regional Police.

The NDC activist was reportedly handcuffed and transported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra for interrogations over his allegations.

Appiah’s mode of arrest sparked public outrage, with many describing it as an abuse of power. The fact that he is a member of the opposition NDC further fueled the criticisms, with many considering the move by the police as one that is simply aimed at pleasing the ruling party.

Moreover, Appiah Stadium is not the only person that has ever leveled allegations on people in authority. Recall that musician and NPP loyalist Kwame Asare Obeng aka A-Plus earlier this year abused former president John Mahama in a viral video, calling him the most greedy person he has ever known.

Recently, A-Plus also accused two government officials on social media of being corrupt. Although the musician was subsequently summoned by CID for interrogation over the corruption claims, he was never taken forcefully or handcuffed to the station.

The above instances and many others further stamped the unfairness in Appiah Stadium’s arrest.

However, President Nana Addo who has never cleared himself of the ‘wee’ claims, expressed disinterest in Appiah’s case, ordering the police to release him as well as desist from arresting any citizen on the grounds of insulting him [the president].
