Power was cut to most parts of the country on Wednesday night and it is yet to be restored in some of the affected areas.

But the CEO of GRIDCo, Engineer William Amuna explains to Citi Business News his outfit is working on restoring power soon.

“As at 6am, we had restored at least 30 percent of the country; as we speak, we have restored yet another twenty percent of the country so about half of the country is on now. We are working on the restoration hoping to end it in two or three hours,” he explained.

Mr. Amuna could however not readily explain the direct cause of the outage.

He however indicated that the fault could have been triggered by lightening during the rainstorm in parts of the country on Wednesday.

According to him, restoration has been ongoing and he is hopeful of meeting consumers’ needs.

“We were able to restore power around 1 am; we were almost through and there was a swing in the power system again and we lost some generation again and then lost many parts of the country in terms of power supply, we have been going through a restoration process.”

At the time, GRIDCo attributed the situation to system failure.

But the CEO has ruled out any system failure this time round.

“I can assure you that there is no problem with any generator in the system. All the generators are intact and we are just calling on them as and when we pick load,” he asserted.

Meanwhile he says there is enough fuel to supply the power plants.
