President Nana Akufo-Addo has hit back at his critics who say his old age could ruin his governance, assuring that he would use every breath and strength he has to uplift Ghana.

He told party members Saturday that a lot of people have expressed concerns about his health vis-à-vis his work, and advised that he takes some rest considering his age but the President said that is a no, no.

“I keep hearing people saying I should rest [and that] I’ve been moving around too much [but] it’s difficult when there’s so much work to be done,” he said while addressing the 25th annual national delegates conference of the NPP in Cape Coast.

He then added, “I know that a lot of people are saying it because they think that I’m an old man”.

But taking inspiration from the Word of God in Zechariah 4:6, Nana Akufo-Addo told his critics “I know one thing, it is not by might nor is it by power but it is by my spirit”.

President Akufo-Addo said the NPP is an heir to the tradition of freedom, progress and development in freedom, which he said, is a “precious asset” and must urged all to be faithful to that tradition.

“We are faithful to that tradition if we recognise we are all in the same boat and we are rowing to the same destination about the upliftment of Ghana and about freedom in Ghana, he said.

He warned that as the captain of that boat, he would not countenance anything that would lead to the capsizing of the boat, which he said the party has toiled to bring it to where it is today.

“…Anybody who wants to rock that boat and capsize it with… I’m not going to allow anybody to capsize our boat…too much efforts and sweat and sacrifices have gone into bringing us where we are today to allow anybody to capsize it,” he stated.

He assured that as a child of this tradition and having spent his life in the struggle of this tradition, he would do anything possible to protect it to survive.

“Everything that is within me that I can do to make sure that this tradition continue to live and flourish, provide the basis of the deliverance of Ghana, Every breath and strength that there is in me I’m gonna use it.
