Youth groups at Nyinahini in the Atwima Mponua District of Ashanti Region have kicked against bauxite prospecting activities in the Tano-Offin Forest Reserve being carried out by Exton Cubic Group Limited.

At a protest march to petition the government, the groups demanded the company removed all mining equipment from the area.

The youth are demanding all machinery of Exton Cubic Group be impounded until an amicable agreement is reached among all stakeholders.

The police had earlier attempted preventing the youth from embarking on the planned protest in the area, something that angered the youth who then threatened not to allow the company to operate.

But the protestors were later allowed to present their petition to the local assembly.

Spokesperson for the youth, Baba Yaro, appealed to the government to ensure all excavators, bulldozers and trucks of the company are impounded until all interest groups are engaged on the activities of the Exton Cubic.

The Nyinahini District Police commander, ASP Ambrose Aboagye, debunked media reports there is tension in the community.

He, however, cautioned the residents to be law abiding in any planned action.

The Nyinahini township was calm when the news team visited the area but security personnel were on alert to avert any security infraction in the community.

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council as part of the clampdown on illegal mining, seized heavy duty equipment deployed for the prospecting and mining bauxite in the Tano-Offin Forest Reserve.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, however said the company has the authorization to undertake the mineral prospecting in the area.
