It has emerged that some nurses at the medical facility which serves as the referral centre for residents at Adeiso and its environs, are trading in the sale of drugs [black market] to patients who come to the facility.
The nurses according to an exclusive report filed by Rainbow Radio’s Prince Collins Bening, purchase variety of drugs from various drug stores and subsequently sell them to patients.
The practice he noted, has been ongoing for some time until the attention of the Deputy Medical Director, Dr. Derrick Duah was drawn to it.
According to him, the activities of the nurses affected the operation for National Health Insurance card bearers since the nurses prevented them from using the medical facility’s pharmacy.
When contacted, the Deputy Medical Director, Dr. Derrick Duah confirmed the revelation adding, he discovered the illegality after taking over office.
He explained, it is not allowed by law for health professionals to use a government facility to engage in such illegality.
‘’I wasn’t happy about the situation because it is not allowed by law to use a government facility to do business and sell drugs. I put in measures to halt this illegality.’’
He was however quick to add that, the situation has minimised and was not as serious as before-due to the measures he put in place.
When asked what could be contributing to the situation he said, a number of factors including the desire to make money could be a major factor.
Dr. Derrick Duah when asked if the offenders were punished said, they were sanctioned and made to desist from engaging in the illegal activity.
