Two executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency of the Northern region have denied claims that a contender for the District Chief Executive (DCE) post in the area is not known to them.

Constituency Women’s Organizer, Madam Mery Zakari and the Deputy Constituency Organizer, Adamu Sakara (S. K.) denied claims that Lawal Tamimu is an alien to the constituency and must not be considered by the appointing authority.

According to them on Bole-based Nkilgi FM, Lawal Tamimu contributed in his own way towards the victory of the party calling on supporters to ignore reports they the executives had taken entrenched stance against him.

Last week there were reports that tension was mounting within the New Patriotic Party in the area with some Constituency Executives expressing fear of possible “bloodshed and division in the party” over an alleged nomination of a “wrong person” as District Chief Executive (DCE).

“People who were not seen anywhere near the NPP and those who couldn’t even come out publicly to say that they are members of the party in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba are those who are now rushing for positions as DCEs and Ministers because they think they have money to lobby, while those who really suffered, were attacked and beaten during campaign are being denied positions. Is that how our leaders want the NPP to be”, they quizzed

Some angry executives claimed that they had picked up information from the presidency that some faceless individuals had dropped the list of applicants presented by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency executives for the DCE position and had replaced them with different names.

The executives and a large section of the youth of the party are not only fuming with rage but are expressing disappointment about what they termed as the “non-transparency and unnecessary interference” in the ongoing selection of District Chief Executives, which seems to create tension among party members across Ghana.

Party executives in the area have since disclosed that calm has been restored and distanced themselves from supporting one candidate against the other.
