This was revealed by Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, who disclosed that the inrush of telenovelas in Ghana is same in Nigeria.

The actress cum evangelist who was in Ghana for a conference at the Precious Seed Chapel in Tema, said the movie market is now open to series and episodes which the Telenovelas are showing to their audience.

Patience Ozokwor urged African movie producers to adopt the style of showing episodes and series since that’s what seems to be in vogue.

These serial Telenovelas, nicely encrypted in channels Zee World and Telemundo on various Pay TVs in NIgeria, have become an every-day must see especially for women.

The telenovelas which come in series Mrs. Ozokwor said, won the hearts of many due to the unique approach employed by the producers.

She pointed out that instead of complaining about the declining patronage of local movies, Nigerian producers should rather learn their strategies.

we need to do something that will make our people come back to us. You can’t force them because it’s a market; everybody goes for what they want. We need to also find out why they have thrown our own away

The Nollywood jewel pointed out ‘not-so-good storylines’ as the major reason why people prefer telenovelas to Nigerian local movies.

Suspense, which is a prominent ingredient in those telenovelas, she said should be imbibed in the Nigerian movie industry.

It is no longer hidden that foreign telenovelas tell serial stories. This makes people anxious and eager to watch following episodes in order to find out how a character ends up.

Patience Ozorkwor’s words of advice take our minds back to the incident where Ghana’s second Lady came under criticisms for promoting Indian soap opera ‘KumKum Bhagya’

Samira Bawumia, who went on a trip to India a few months ago visited the casting crew of Ghana’s favorite TV show and took

pictures with them.

Her visit became known after Shivabi (the character Pammi in the series) posted a photo of herself together with the Second Lady on Instagram.

However, a section of the Ghanaian public criticised her for posing for photos with actors of the popular telenovela; an act which they described as an endorsement of the Indian Soap Opera.

But like Patience Ozorkwor, Samira advised local movie producers to learn best practices from foreign movie industries to enable the Ghanaian movie industry to develop further.
