All the expatriate business representatives scheduled to appear before the Parliamentary ad hoc committee looking into allegations of the payment of monies to sit near President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at an awards event last year failed to show up on Tuesday.

The business executives were expected to appear before the committee at 10:00 am but as of 11:30am none had turned up.

This made the chairman of the five-member committee, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, adjourn sitting indefinitely.

Reporting on 3FM’s Midday News from Parliament, Media General’s Catherine Frimpongmaa said the committee says it will schedule another meeting with the expatriates to find out the reason why they did not turn up.

The committee had written to all of them, Mr Ameyaw-Cheremeh is quoted as saying, to appear on Tuesday.

They did not give any notice they would not turn up and information have not come, a member of the committee, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, told MG’s reporter.

He is quoted as warning that the committee has the powers to take punitive action against any individual or group that fails to appear before it.

The last sitting of the committee, on Monday, saw Ashim Morton, the President of organisers of the event Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF), and board chairman Ambassador Victor Gbeho make an appearance.

Already, the Minister of Trades and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, members of Parliament Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed and Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa have appeared before the committee since sitting began.
